Thief River Falls - Halvor Arneson, 89, died Thursday, April 22, 1999 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, rural Grygla, with Reverend Paul Knutson officiating. Berniece Jelle was the organist. Casketbearers were Leonard Newhouse, Elmer Newhouse, Carlyle Askeland, Steve Sundberg, Basil Stavness and Larry Askeland. Burial was in Our Saviors Cemetery in Hamre township of Beltrami county. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Halvor Arneson was born on August 1, 1909 in Lee township of Beltrami county, the son of Arne and Bergit (Kveste) Kvasager. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and attended school in Lee township.

On May 8, 1934 Halvor was united in marriage to Evelyn Jelle in Grygla. The couple farmed in Lee township for several years. In 1957 they moved to Thief River Falls where they owned and operated Arneson's Boarding Home. After retiring in 1990, Halvor and Evelyn continued to make their home in Thief River Falls. Evelyn died on December 21, 1995.

He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Halvor is survived by one daughter, Judy (Kenneth) Halvorson of Thief River Falls; one son, Orley Arneson of Norco, CA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; one son, Belmont; his parents; and eight siblings, Gina, Julia, Knute, Tellof, Arne, Ole, Tillie and Betsey.
