Helen
Appleton, 88
Newfolden
- Helen Appleton died on Saturday, January 10,
2004 following a brief bout with
pneumonia.
Helen
was born and raised in Oakland, Calif. She attended
the University of California at Berkeley and the
University of Oregon, majoring in French and
English literature.
She
married "Lamp" Walker in 1935 and they established
their home in Oakland, Calif. Helen had three
children and was an active homemaker being involved
with her local church, the Parent Teachers'
Association, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of
America.
Helen
married Harold Appleton in 1956 and worked as an
office manager for a dental group in Oakland. Helen
and Harry relocated to Davis, Calif. in 1958, where
Helen continued to work as a homemaker and office
manager. The Appletons retired to Sebastopol,
Calif. in 1965. Following Harry's death in 1973,
Helen cared for her mother until her death in 1980.
In
1985, Helen relocated to Newfolden to be near her
daughter Nancy McKenzie. Helen actively assisted in
the Newfolden Senior Meals program as well as the
Evangelical Free Church.
Due
to failing health concerns for her safety Helen
moved into the Karlstad Health Care Center in the
fall of 2001.
Survivors
include her children: Robert Walker of Mountain
View, Calif., Nancy McKenzie of Newfolden, and Tom
Walker of Keizer, Ore,; nine grandchildren; 25
great-grandchildren
Helen
was preceded in death by her late husbands; and one
