- Richard "Dick" Anderson Sr., 81, died
Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at First Care Hospital in
Fosston.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 6, at
Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby with Scott Bailey
officiating. Burial was in Fridhem Lutheran
Cemetery, rural Lengby. Casketbearers were Martin
Johannessohn, Joe Bauer, Brian Olson, Les Beck,
Adam Anderson and Neal Harmon. Flag presentation
was provided by Spring Lake VFW Post 2759 of
Lengby. Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston was
in charge of the arrangements.
Richard
Wallace Anderson was born on March 22, 1920 in
Detroit Lakes, the son of Louie and Lillie
(Okerson) Anderson. He grew up and attended school
in Detroit Lakes. He owned various small businesses
and worked at several jobs in the Detroit Lakes
area.
During
World War II, Richard served as a corporal with the
U.S. Army and was stationed in the South Pacific.
Following his honorable discharge, he lived in the
Fargo and Grand Forks areas and was employed by
Transport Incorporated.
On
August 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Vivian
Wiberg. The couple moved to the Fosston/Lengby area
in 1956. Through the years, Dick was involved in
the equipment sales business and owned and operated
Dick Anderson Sales near Lengby. He retired in
1993.
He
was a member of Fridhem Lutheran Church and enjoyed
hunting, fishing, reading and spending time with
his grandchildren.
Dick
is survived by his wife, Vivian of Fosston; four
sons, Mark (Shirley) of Mahnomen, Kim (Rita) of
Fosston, Roger of Bemidji and Richard Jr. (Christy)
of Thief River Falls; a daughter, Diane (Elwood)
Gunderson of Fosston; a sister, Virginia (Bill)
Kreber of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and other
relatives.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; a sister,
Ethel Beadle; and a brother, Everett Anderson.
