Odessa Anderson, 91

Thief River Falls - Odessa Anderson, 91, died on Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 6 at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Thief River Falls with the Rev. Luther Peterson officiating. Louise Solseng was the organist and Tiffany Sorenson was the soloist. Casketbearers were Duane Olson, Inar Mikkelson, Myles Koop, Kyle Anderson, Keith Anderson and Robby Anderson. Interment was in Oak Ridge Church Cemetery.

Odessa May Buckels was born on September 8, 1911, the daughter of Alvat and Bertha (Malina) Peterson, in Liberty Township of Hamilton County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Federated Church. When she was five years old, the family moved to Lakota, Iowa, where Odessa attended school. In 1929, she graduated from Lakota High School with honors. For a few years, she did domestic work and worked on the family farm.

On October 10, 1932, Odessa was united in marriage to Albert "Andy" G. Anderson in Algona, Iowa. The couple lived in Lakota and Forest City and then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where they lived for five years. In 1939, they moved to Thief River Falls and lived in Sanders Township. Odessa clerked for her husband's sales and raised her family. She was a member of Oak Ridge Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (James) Lower of Wheatfield, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and daughters-in-law, Bev Ranum of Thief River Falls and Janice Anderson of Metairie, La.

Odessa was preceded in death by her husband, Andy; sons, James and Larry; a granddaughter; sister, Esther Zimmerman; and brother, Clifton. A00003B2003MY07
