Gote Anderson, 90

Thief River Falls - Gote Anderson, 90, died on Friday, September 6, 2002 at his home in rural Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11 (today) at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Arlen Hermodson officiating. Joyce Halbasch will be the organist and Kathy Larson and Kenneth Poole will be the vocalists. Special music will include "The Old Rugged Cross." Casketbearers will be Rolland Sande, Clair Larson, Carl Berggren, Ray Johnson, Joe Forberg, Phil Bergland and Eugene Rondorf. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was on Tuesday, September 10 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home and will also take place for one hour prior to services on Wednesday in the church.

Gote Anderson was born on June 8, 1912, the son of Oscar and Charlotta (Hansson) Anderson in Smiley Township in Pennington County. He grew up and attended Hiwatha School in Smiley Township. On July 13, 1942, Gote entered the United States Army in Little Rock, Ark. He was a Staff Sergeant with the 101st ARM Airways Communications Systems 51st Group. He was honorably discharged from the service on March 1, 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wisc. He returned to the area where he farmed his entire life in Smiley Township.

Gote was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars, International-War-Veterans Alliance, The Agassiz Swedish Society, The Nash Car Club of America and Antique Automobile Club of America. He enjoyed working on old cars and tractors.

Survivors include a sister, Martha Burtness of Thief River Falls and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Gote was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ina Myrom and Harriet Anderson; brothers Clarence, Wilhelm and Erland; brothers-in-law, Clarence Myrom and John Burtness; and one nephew.
