
Greenbush - Joseph "Joe D." Anderson, 85, died Saturday, November 13, 1999 at the Roseau Area Hospital in Roseau.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17 at United Free Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Rev. Ken Hart and Rev. Ernie Christensen officiating. Special music was provided by Tom and Linda Anderson and Christina Moore.
Honorary casketbearers were Jeff and Marian Everson, Hank and Carol Johnson, Linn and Selma Rigstad, Milt and Irene Sather, Leif and Norma Hagen, Dale and Kay Anderson and Terry and Carrie Jo Howard. Casketbearers were David Foss, Keith Kilen, Jerel Kilen, Michael Kilen, Alvin Bertilrud, Russ Anderson, Ron Anderson, Reed Anderson and Jeff Anderson. Burial was in Pauli Lutheran Cemetery. The Gieseke Funeral Chapel in Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.
Joseph Gilmer Anderson was born on July 20, 1914 in Deer township of Roseau county near Greenbush, the son of Andrew O. and Thone (Gjersund) Anderson. He attended country school near his home and farmed with his father on the home farm.
On July 25, 1945 he married Dorothy Simpson at Darling, MS. Joe continued to farm. Dorothy died on August 24, 1976.
On July 29, Joe married Mildred Dahl Syverson in Greenbush. Joe lived on the same farm his entire life.
He served as treasurer of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for many years and also served on the Deer Township Board and as State Fire Warden for many years. Joe was a member of the Greenbush Lions Club and Pelan Pioneer Park Board.
He enjoyed children and was known as the "neighborhood grandpa."
Joe is survived by his wife, Mildred; one son, Miles Thomas (Linda) of Littleton, CO; three daughters, JoAnn (Kenneth) Beebe of Florissant, MO, Susan McKay of Bemidji and Toni Anderson-Donarski of Inkster, ND; two stepdaughters, Melvern (Bill) Taylor of Spicer and Sharon (Chris) Kapp of Kasson; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
