
Thief River Falls - Ivar Anderson, 90, died Friday, December 29, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, January 3) at Salem Lutheran
Church, rural Stephen, with Rev. Eric Heskin, Rev. Henry Moyer and
Rev. Marlene Anderson officiating. Grace Frei will be the organist,
and vocal music will be provided by his grandchildren, Vanessa and
Jon Anderson. Casketbearers will be David Jensen, Richard Anderson,
Myron Anderson, Carl Troska, Paul Grandstrand and Sam Grandstrand.
Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.
Ivar Emanuel Albin Anderson was born on March 4, 1910 on the home farm in Augsburg township of Marshall county, the son of John Peter and Brita Marie (Engolm) Anderson. He was baptized on March 27, 1910 and confirmed on September 27, 1925 by Rev. Carlstedt. He attended Benson country school in Section 10 for one year in 1915. The remainder of his schooling was at Schmidt School, called District 16, in Augsburg township.
On June 15, 1940, Ivar was united in marriage to Thelma Gollnick at the Salem parsonage. Ivar farmed the family farm his entire life and raised his family there. His wife, Thelma, taught school in various locations, and they spend the winters in those towns. Thelma died on January 1, 1983. Ivar continued to help on the farm, helping his son, Cecil, until three days before he had surgery in September.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and was president of the Marshall County Farmers Union for several years.
Ivar enjoyed music, especially singing in Swedish when accompanied by his daughter Naomi. He also enjoyed farming, especially the family's Century farm which has been in the family for 113 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Naomi of Thief River Falls and Marilyn (Darris) Johnson of Fort Yates, N.D.; two sons, Cecil (Maryel) of Thief River Falls and Quinton (Brenda) of Lakeville; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; twin daughters, Lois and Lorna, on August 26, 1944; his parents; five brothers, Ted, Leander, Axel, Charles and Albin; four sisters, Olga Benson, Freida Paulson, Ellen Jensen and Esther Troska; and several nieces and nephews.
