
Karlstad - Hans A. Anderson, 86, died Saturday, March 14, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, March 18) at 10 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Stephen with Pastor Erling Huglen officiating. Grace Frei will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided Vangie Carlson and Yvonne Boen. Honorary casketbearers will be Hans' Godchildren, Sharon Schmidt Nelson, Terri Freeman Johnson, Ricky Anderson, Susan Krogstad Thielen, Jana Benson Kontz, Terri Henrickson, Lloyd Berg and William Berg. Casketbearers will be Matthew Berg, Curtis Benson, Palmer Hallberg, Curtis Hageland, Gale Frei and David Pietruszewski. Interment will be at Salem Lutheran Church in Stephen. Arrangements are with the Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad.
Hans Andreas Anderson, the son of Tom and Martha (Lofquist) Anderson, was born on January 13, 1912 in Augsburg township near Stephen. He attended school and grew to manhood there and was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church near his home. As a young man he operated a trucking service and later farmed in Nelson Park township in Marshall county.
On May 28, 1940 Hans was united in marriage to Helen Berg at the Salem Church parsonage. He was assessor for Nelson township and served on the town board for many years. He was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, serving many terms on the church council. In 1994 the couple moved to Karlstad where they have since resided.
Hans is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, Roger (Dorothy) Anderson of St. Paul; one daughter, Carol (Quentin) Roth of Pengilly; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Bogestad of Karlstad; special brother-in-law, Chester Berg of Karlstad; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Milton; and one sister, Mabel.
