Dora Anderson, 83

Hopkins - Dora Anderson, 83, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Sunday, December 26, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 30 at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Mandi Rodahl will be the pianist, and the soloist will be Katie Christensen. Casketbearers will be Andrew Solem, Raymond Biden, David Rodahl, Darrold Rodahl, Jim Berg and Robert Magnuson. Burial will be in Folden Cemetery in New Folden township of Marshall county.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, December 29) at the Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church.

Dora Ness was born on June 11, 1916 near Holt, the daughter of August and Annette (Berg) Ness. She was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt and attended country school near Holt. After leaving home at an early age, Dora worked at Oakland Park in Thief River Falls and also as a housekeeper in Battle Lake and Holt and attended school in the Twin Cities.

While living in the Twin Cities, she met Leo Anderson and the couple was married on August 27, 1938 in Racine, WI. They made their home in Chicago, IL where Dora worked at a factory that manufactured and distributed dental film.

In Chicago she was active at the First Evangelical Free Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, shopping at the dollar store, vitamins, the Chicago Bears and Mike Ditka and listening to southern gospel music.

Dora is survived by one daughter, Valerie (Peter) Solum of Thief River Falls; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Rodahl of Thief River Falls; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Gene Sanford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; two daughters, Marilyn who died of cancer at the age of 14 and Sharon who died in a car accident when she was 34 years old; eight brothers and sisters, John Ness, Bertil Ness, Clarence Ness, Harold Ness, Sophia Ness, Reuben Ness, Mabel Anderson and Edwin Ness; one grandson, Samuel Kooy; and one granddaughter, Naomi Solem.
