
Thief River Falls - Carmen Anderson, 79, died Thursday, October 21, 1999 at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 25 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and special music was provided by Grace Hammer. Burial was in Community Cemetery in River Falls township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Carmen Melinda Highland was born on March 15, 1920 in River Falls township of Pennington county, the daughter of Mike and Charlotte (Benson) Highland. She was baptized on March 29, 1920 at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire and was later confirmed there on November 21, 1934. Carmen attended school in St. Hilaire, graduating in 1938.
On July 30, 1038, she was united in marriage to Birdean Anderson at Thief River Falls. Birdean was engaged in road construction as a heavy equipment operator for many years. In 1940, the couple purchased a farm near St. Hilaire in River Falls township, and they farmed while Birdean continued to work on construction. They retired from farming in 1972. Shortly after Birdean died on September 3, 1978, Carmen went to work at Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls and worked there for several years. She moved into Thief River Falls.
Carmen enjoyed crocheting, traveling and especially walking two or more miles a day.
She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid.
Carmen is survived by one daughter-in-law, Mariann Anderson of Citrus Heights, CA; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Glenn Anderson on April 30, 1994.
