Dorothy A. Anderson, 87

Pine River - Dorothy A. Anderson, 87, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on July 28, 2002 at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center in Pine River.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 31 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swanburg with Rev. Marlys Korman officiating. Janis Allen provided special music at the service. Interment was in Swanburg Cemetery.

Dorothy Ann Johnson was born on January 1, 1915, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Knapper) Johnson, near Roseau. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.

On June 27, 1934, she married Levin H. Anderson in Grygla. They lived in Thief River Falls until 1937 when they moved to St. Paul. During World War II, Dorothy worked at Northwest Airlines revamping planes for the war effort. She had also worked several other jobs including working for the IRS for 15 years. Since 1962, the couple spent their summers at Lake Ossawinnamakee. Once retired in 1980, the moved to their home on West Fox Lake, near Fifty Lakes. They spent their winters in Seminole, Fla. after retirement.

Survivors include her husband, Levin; two sons, Lyle of Austin, Texas, and Glen of St. Paul; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ellen Holthusen of Grygla.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, JoAnn A. Shetka; four brothers, Clarence, Raymond, Art and Richard; and one sister, Mabel.
