Elmer Amundson, 89

East Grand Forks - Elmer Oliver Amundson, 89, formerly of Strandquist, died on Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at his home in East Grand Forks. AmundsonElmer

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 31 at First Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Forks, N.D.

Elmer Oliver Amundson was born on September 2, 1912, the son of Otto and Jenny (Hegstrom) Amundson in Grand Forks, N.D. As a child, he moved with his family to Strandquist where he attended school. On December 1, 1939, he married Minnie Nelson in Newfolden. The couple farmed near Strandquist and later owned and operated Elmer's Garage in Strandquist. In 1950, they moved to East Grand Forks where he worked for Dan Dugan Transport Company until his retirement in 1974. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and developed an expertise in woodturning. Elmer provided spindle work and antique repair for several local businesses. He was a devoted husband and family man.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie of East Grand Forks; four children, Bonita (Thomas) Todd of Lexington, Ky., Elroy (Sharon) of Clarkston, Wash., Donna (Kenny) Huff of Gilman City, Mo. and Jennifer Monson of Burnsville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Dolf (Emma) of Freeport, Ill.; and a sister, Daisy Webb of Pleasant Hill, Calif.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; two sisters, Olga and Viola; and six brothers, Vernon, Clifford, Dale, Arlie, Ivan and Rolf. A00003B2002SP04
