Rolland Amundson, 63

Newfolden - Rolland Amundson, 63, died Thursday, January 6, 2000 at his home in West Valley township of Marshall county.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 10 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Rev. John Jorgensen officiating. Sheila Nelson was the organist, and vocalists were Lois Peterson and Lois Anderson. Casketbearers were Howard Rokke, Rodney Liedberg, James Engelsrud, Brian Rokke, Arlynn Tunheim, Newell Berggren, Hilton Hjelle, Milton Davidson and John Rokke. Military rites were accorded by the Newfolden Otto Knutson American Legion Post. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden with the Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls in charge of the arrangements.

Rolland Paul Amundson was born on September 13, 1936 in Thief River Falls, the son of Paul Oscar Dyrud-Amundson and Tillie B. (Tunheim) Amundson. He grew up and attended school in West Valley township and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1954. He attended the University of Minnesota for a time before returning to farm in West Valley township.

On April 21, 1959 he entered the U.S. Army and served stateside for two years. Rolland was a personnel specialist and received a Good Conduct medal. He returned to Newfolden following his honorable discharge on March 21, 1961 at Fort Lewis, WA.

On December 28, 1962 he was united in marriage to Doreen Kvemshagen at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood, ND. The couple made their home in Newfolden until moving to the Amundson family farm in 1970. Rolland raised grain and cattle. For the past two years, his health had forced him to slow down on farming.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, serving on the church council. He also served on the West Valley township board and the Marshall County FHA board.

Rolland is survived by his wife, Doreen; one daughter, Patricia (Jason) Anderson; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A00003B2000JA12
