Katie Akin, 98

Thief River Falls - Katie Akin, 98, died Friday, August 7, 1998 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 11 at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Thief River Falls with Pastors Virgil Rasmussen and George Bunnel officiating. Special music was provided by Judy Chappelle, playing the piano and singing a solo, and soloist Craig Folkedahl. Casketbearers were Donald E. Mack, Pete Miller, Keith Mack, Gerald Mack, Jeff Eckstein and Craig Folkedahl. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Katie Elizabeth Lake was born on October 9, 1899 in rural Blair, NE, the daughter of Elliot and Julia (Born) Lake.

On January 5, 1920, she was united in marriage to Earl E. Akin in Blair, NE, where they lived and operated a sawmill. The later moved to Alcester, SD where they farmed until moving to the Fourtown area in 1927. They later farmed in the Goodridge community until 1969 when they moved to Thief River Falls. Earl died in 1991, and Katie eventually moved to Oakland Park Nursing Home where she resided until her death.

Katie is survived by one daughter, Kathryn (Nels Henry) Nelson of Thief River Falls; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; one daughter, Jenny Mack of Oklee; her parents; and two grandchildren, Sharon and Larry Mack.
