She was baptized and made her first communion at St. Clements Catholic Church in Haymarsh, N.D. She attended a Catholic boarding school in Richardton, N.D. and was confirmed into the Catholic faith at the Abbey there.

On November 26, 1929, Josephine was united in marriage to Mike Agnes at Haymarsh, N.D. They resided on a farm in Eden Township near Trail until Mike's death in 1987. Josephine moved to an apartment in Gully and resided there for five years. In 1992, she moved to Rolette, N.D. and lived with her son until 1994 when she moved to the Presentation Care Center.

While on the farm, Josephine took an active role in the operation, often having a hired girl to take care of the house while she helped in the field.

She was a member of St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church, rural Trail, until it closed. For many years, she provided flowers for the altar, sang in the choir, and held many offices in its Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Trail VFW Post 6426 Auxiliary.

She enjoyed many pastimes, including crafting, sewing, quilting, tatting, and crocheting.

Josephine is survived by two sons, Fillmore (Joyce) of Rolette, N.D. and Franklin (Lucy) of Langdon, N.D.; a daughter, Virginia (Anthony) Weber of Trail; a son-in-law, Roger Hanson of Fosston; 25 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 12 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
