Reuben Aasland, 99

Mesa, Ariz. - Reuben E. Aasland, 99, died Nov. 1, 2003 in Mesa, Ariz., under hospice care.

Reuben was born in rural Thief River Falls on Dec. 14, 1903, to Thorsten and Engel Aasland. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.

Reuben attended the University of North Dakota and graduated in just three years in 1926, with bachelor of science degree in commerce. He worked as a sales representative for several companies, including the West Bend Aluminum Company.

In 1930 he moved to California where he started Royal House Service Company, similar to the Jewel Tea Company, a coffee roasting and distribution business. From 1948 to 1949, he was president of the National Tea and Coffee Association in Chicago. He also spent some time as a real estate developer in Texas from 1960 to 1970. In 1935, while in Los Angeles, he met his wife Alice. Alice died in 1993.

Survivors include 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers Grover, Ralph, Thales and Edgar; and three sisters, Grace, Elvina and Agnes.
