Vernon Wold, 81

Thief River Falls - Vernon Wold, 81, died Sunday, August 2, 1998 at his home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Terri Cuppett officiating. Joyce Halbasch will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided by Kelsey Carlson. Casketbearers will be Brian Mills, David Hoefer, Shane Wold, Brett Mills, Nathan Hoefer, Ryan Sorvig, Justin Iverson, Jonathan Iverson and Joshua Iverson. Honorary casketbearers will be Penny Iverson, Stacy Myhrer, Danielle Wold, Shannon Jones, Jennifer Wold, Jessica Wold and Stephanie Wold. Burial will be held in Community Cemetery in St. Hilaire.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5 at Green Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service and at the church for one hour prior to services.

Vernon LeRoy Wold was born on February 23, 1917 in Trail, the son of Adolph and Octavia (Bredeson) Wold. When he was six weeks old, the family moved to Thief River Falls. He attended rural school in Sanders township. He worked for area farmers before he became self-employed in farming.

On December 4, 1944 he was united in marriage to Jean Wood at Pastor Silas Erickson's parsonage in Thief River Falls. They remained on the farm for a brief period before moving to Thief River Falls where they lived for six years. They returned to the farm in 1954 where they have since resided. Vernon was employed at Home Lumber and Peterson Lumber for 28 years. He also worked for Inter-County Community Council for 10 years.

After retirement, Vernon enjoyed the farm and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Jean; four daughters, Kathy (Lloyd) Hoefer of Blaine, Barbara (Dennis) Mills of St. Hilaire, Sandra (Tom) Ratliff of St. Hilaire, and Sonia (Myron) Iverson of Thief River Falls; two sons, Edward (Nadine) Wold of Spring Lake Park and Verner "Lee" Wold of Red Lake Falls; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Peterson of Thief River Falls; and three brothers, Bernard (Dorothy) Wold, Alvin (Pearl) Wold and Virgil (Dorothy) Wold, all of Thief River Falls.
