Warren - Lillie Wittman died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at the Marshall Manor Good Samaritan Center in Warren at the age of 96.
Lillie (Lily) Jane Nicholls was born on April 21, 1900, in McCrea township, Marshall county. She was the seventh child and only daughter of John and Ingeborg Nicholls. She attended Cook school. As a young girl of 14, Lillie was left to cook and care for her brothers. On June 8, 1921, she was united in marriage to John Wittman. They made their home in McCrea township near Burnside school. John passed away on August 26, 1973.
Lillie was a devoted farm wife and mother who worked in the fields beside her husband and prepared meals for the harvest and threshing crews. In later years, her greatest joy was reading to her grandchildren and playing cards and games with them. She has been a member of the Zion Lutheran Church since 1928.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Laurel and Beverly Wittman, and her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Sig Silnes all of Warren. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 16 nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law, Elsie Nicholls of Warren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and seven brothers, Garfield, Noble, Erland, Havlock, Marshall, Harvey and Abner Nicholls.
Interment is in Greenwood Cemetery, Warren.
