
Thief River Falls - Allie Witt, 76, died Friday, April 21, 2000 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25 at Black River Lutheran Church near St. Hilaire with Rev. Galen Sylvester officiating. Ruthie Mosbeck was the organist, and Rev. Terri Cuppett was the soloist. Casketbearers were Richard Nelson, Howard Nelson, Leslie Nelson, Mark Naplin, Robert Helgeland and Marvin Hutchinson. Burial was in Black River Lutheran Church Cemetery in Polk Centre township of Pennington county. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Allie Leona June Nelson was born on January 15, 1924 in Agder township of Marshall county, the daughter of Christ and Josephine "Josie" (Bendickson) Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Agder township.
On November 16, 1942, Allie was united in marriage to Herman Witt at Holt. The couple moved to Minneapolis where they lived for a few years before returning to the Dorothy area where they farmed. In 1950, they moved to an area near St. Hilaire where they farmed. After Herman died on March 30, 1987, Allie continued to live on her farm. She worked making lefse in St. Hilaire and for many years at Detroiter Manufacturing in Red Lake Falls, retiring in 1988.
Allie was a member of Black River Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid and was active at the Heritage Community Center in Thief River Falls.
She enjoyed bowling, dancing, traveling, working with flowers, vegetable gardening, crafting and sewing.
Allie is survived by one daughter, Karen Bennett (Ernest Lothamer) of Fort Wayne, Ind., two sons, Kenneth (Linda) of Tracy and Robert (Sherry) of Fairbanks, Alaska; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special friend, Bentley Paulson; one sister-in-law, Jean Nelson of Thief River Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Edith Miles and Sybil Knutson; and four brothers, Lloyd, Seymore, Clifford and Vearl Nelson. A00003B2000AP26
