
William Wilson Jr., 80
Greenbush - William Wilson Jr., 80, died Monday, June 26, 2000 at the Greenbush Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Ernie Christensen officiating. Joan Haugen was the organist, and special music was provided by Marie Olson and Howard and Janice Neumann. Casketbearers were grandsons Denny and Kurt Dvergsten and Mark, Jeffrey, Richard, Michael and Nicholas Wilson. Interment was in Bethel Lutheran Cemetery with the Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.
William John Wilson Jr. was born on August 10, 1919 in Dewey township of Roseau county near Greenbush, the son of William John Wilson Sr. and Olga (Bakke) Wilson. He grew up in Dewey township and attended school there. William was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Pauli Lutheran Church, rural Greenbush. He attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston.
On August 12, 1950, he married Maybelle Schaller in Greenbush. They lived on the farm where he was born until 1984 when they moved to their new home in Greenbush. William had been a resident of the Greenbush Nursing Home since 1990.
He was an active member of the community, serving as a member of the Minnesota Wool Growers, Roseau County Co-op Assn. board of directors, Northwest No. 2 Dairy Herd Improvement Assn. board of directors, Greenbush Grain and Seed Assn., Farm Home Administration board and Red River Holstein Assn. He also served on the councils of Pauli Lutheran and Bethel Lutheran churches.
William is survived by his wife, Maybelle Wilson of Greenbush; five sons, Allan (Helen) Wilson of Thief River Falls, Gary (Vickie) Wilson and Ward (Dawn) Wilson, both of Greenbush, Weldon (Coreen) Wilson of St. Cloud and Ronald (Georgianne) Wilson of Plover, Wisc.; two daughters, Vivian (Donald) Dvergsten of Greenbush and Arleen (Wallace) Olson of Mequon, Wisc.; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William John Wilson III; three grandchildren, Wayne Dvergsten and Kenny and Jodi Wilson; and two sisters, Glendora Melby and Irene Melby. A00003B2000JL00
