
Crookston - Betty Wilkens, 66, died Saturday, October 4, 1997 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with interment at Oakdale Cemetery, also in Crookston. The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Betty was born on August 8, 1931 at Crookston, the daughter of John and Emerald (Melhouse) Ruhl. She grew up at Crookston and attended Central High School. On April 6, 1949 Betty was united in marriage to Donald Wilkens at Trinity Lutheran Church at Crookston. For several years she was employed at the Montgomery Ward Store. Betty then began working at the appointment desk at Northwestern Clinic retiring in 1993 after many years. In semi-retirement, she worked at Eagle Drug to the present time.
Betty enjoyed traveling. Her family was her most important priority. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and visiting. She was a member of the Valley Christian Fellowship of Crookston and the VFW Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Nancy Sorenson of Nashville, TN; one son, Greg (Linda) of Crookston; three grandchildren; one brother, Bill (Jan) Taylor of St. Louis; two aunts and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bruce, who died in 1984; and one brother, Clinton Taylor.
