George Wickstrom, 91

Roseau - George Wickstrom, 91, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at his home in Roseau.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 21, at Oiland Lutheran Church, rural Greenbush, with Rev. Alvin Sather and Rev. Larry Severson officiating. Gracia Nelson was the pianist, and vocal music was provided by Rodney Kjersten. Casketbearers were Curtis and Charles Thompson, James Jenson, Clifford Holm, Claire Kjersten, Glenn Iverson and Don Blazek. Interment was in Oiland Lutheran Cemetery with Gieseke Funeral Chapel in charge of the arrangements.

George William Wickstrom was born on March 5, 1909 in Skagen township of Roseau county near Badger, the son of Andrew and Kristine (Swan) Wickstrom. He grew up in Skagen township and attended school in Badger.

On October 23, 1933, he was married to Jennie A. Thompson at Roseau with Rev. Quambeck performing the ceremony. The couple farmed near Badger until 1943 when they moved to Roseau where they had since resided. George worked at many places over the years, including Culligan Soft Water. He also built homes, sold automobiles and repaired bicycles.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie A. Wickstrom of Roseau; two daughters, Georgjean (Gary) Johnson of Wadena and Janice (Bruce) Johnson of Orange, Calif; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lyla Blazek of Badger; and one sister-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert, Ernest, Clifford and Walter; and two sisters, Alice Jensen and Minnie Hylland. A00003B2000JL26
