
Oklee - Bernyce Wicks, 75, died Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at First Care Hospital in Fosston.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Saturday, September 12 at 2 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee with Father Joe Richards officiating. Barb Melby was the organist, and Joan Bronken was the song leader. Special music was provided by Charity Wicks. Casketbearers were Adam Wicks, Benjamin Wicks, Todd Erickson, Shawn Erickson, Chris Erickson and Bill Paradis. Honorary casketbearers were her granddaughters and nieces and nephews. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Petterson Funeral Home of Oklee was in charge of the arrangements.
Bernyce Marie Asselin was born to Onezime and Permelia (Hince) Asselin on March 3, 1923 in Lambert township of Red Lake county near Oklee where she was raised. She attended school in Oklee and graduated from Oklee High School. She worked at various places in Oklee.
On June 11, 1946 Bernyce was united in marriage to Raymond Wicks at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee. The couple lived and farmed in the Oklee area. She also worked for social services, driving people to various places.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Church Guild, St. Ann's Society and the Woodmen of the World Lodge No. 117.
Bernyce is survived by her husband, Raymond of Oklee; one daughter, Kathleen (Lyle) Erickson of Solway; two sons, Michael (Lorna) Wicks of Oklee and Jeffrey Wicks of Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mayme Berberich of Brooks and Lucille (Marvin) Strande of Crookston; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joe, Walter, Harvey and Tom; and three sisters, Rose, Cora and Celene.
