Stella Kordus Werner, 72

Anchorage, AK - Stella M. Kordus Werner,72, died Wednesday, October 29, 1997 at her home in Anchorage, AK.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, November 5 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church with Father Gabriel officiating. Casketbearers were Steve Kordus, Frank Kordus, Jason Kordus, Robert Sprinkle, Mike Rodgers, Arvin Hall and Trevis Kordus. Honorary casketbearers were Palmer Roos, Darryl Kordus, Iden Bush, Kalani Kordus, Ed Driscoll, Bill Weatherly and Robert Finkbiner. A celebration of life followed the service at the Moose Lodge. Burial was in the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. The arrangements were with the Evergreen Memorial Chapel.

Stella M. Roos was born December 31, 1924 in Thief River Falls to Alexander and Anna Marie Roos. She graduated from high school in Thief River Falls. In 1948 she married Charles Kordus and moved to Alaska. She lived in Seward and Valdez before settling in Anchorage where she raised her eight children. In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed by the Voyager Inn and Alaska Business College.

In 1976 she married Bill Werner and moved to Kahalui, Maui, Hawaii where she lived until 1986 when she returned to Anchorage. While in Kahalui she was employed by the Wackenhut Corp. until her retirement in 1986.

Stella is survived by one brother, Palmer (Ruth) Roos of Grand Forks, ND; one sister, Alice Roos of Thief River Falls; her companion, Iden Bush of Wasilla; three sons, Steven (Christy) Kordus of Yelm, WA, Frank (Sandie) Kordus of Anchorage, AK and Jason Kordus of Flagstaff, AZ; five daughters, Valerie (Robert) Sprinkle of Anchorage, AK, Mary (Mike) Rodgers of Manteca, CA, Monica Marcott of Palmer, AK, Janell (Ed) Driscoll of Anchorage, AK and Kari (Arvid) Hall of Anchorage, AK; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
