Isabel Weir, 80

Thief River Falls - Isabel Weir, 80, died Thursday, January 18, 2001 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Private services will be at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Hallock.

Annie Isabel Phelps was born on June 9, 1920 on the family farm at Bowesmont, N.D., the daughter of Charles Freeman and Dolley (McMartin) Phelps. She attended Fleece School at rural Bowesmont.

On November 10, 1943, she was united in marriage to John Weir at Hallock. The couple lived in the Bowesmont and Joliet, N.D. area. In 1963, they moved to the Humboldt-St. Vincent area where they farmed. In 1984, the couple moved to Hallock and in 1988, to Thief River Falls. Isabel worked on the farm and as a homemaker and mother.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, country music, creative quilting, sewing and cooking.

Isabel is survived by her husband, John; four daughters, Janet Wenger of Albuquerque, N.M., Betty (Meredith) Hovet of Casselton, N.D., Louise (James) Rurode of Custer, S.D. and Marilyn Weir of Thief River Falls; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Matilda Well of Grand Forks, N.D.; two brothers, Bert (Dorothy) Phelps of Park River, N.D. and George (Julia) Phelps of Grand Forks, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, David on February 18, 1981; her parents; a sister, Frances; and a brother, Donald.
