"Dick" Weflen, 79, died Tuesday, November 21, 2000 at his home in
Dickinson, N.D.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 24 at River of Life Assembly Church in Dickinson with Rev. James Hessler officiating. Entombment was in Dickinson Mausoleum with military honors provided by the Veterans Drill Team. Landbury Funeral Service of Dickinson was in charge of the arrangements.
Dvane Weflen was born on January 26, 1921, the son of Julius and Tilda (Rye) Weflen, at Tioga, N.D. where he was raised and attended school. He worked in Minnesota for awhile before going to Stockton, Calif. in 1943 where he trained farm workers in rural war productions for Weyl Zuckerman & Company. Dvane entered the United States Navy in 1945, serving as a Seaman 2nd Class on the USS Harry Lee. He received the Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1946.
On September 3, 1950, Dvane was united in marriage in Tioga, N.D. to Glorianne Johnson of Thief River Falls. While in Tioga, he worked in the oil field, rough necking and insulating. In 1972, the couple moved to Dickinson where Dick worked for Miller Insulation until he retired in 1984.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and reading. He was a member of the American Legion.
Dvane is survived by his wife, Glorianne; a son, Kenneth (Wanda) Weflen of Dickinson; three daughters, Linda Igard and Cindy (Jim) Flohr, both of Dickinson, and Dianell (Darrell) Sandberg of Tioga, N.D.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Rudolph of Tioga; three sisters, Doris Iverson of Tioga, Betty Jane Jordan of Sun City, Ariz. and Jeanette Swanson of Bismarck, N.D.; two sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter and Roy; and three sisters, Orda, Lilly and Deloris. A00003B2000NV29
