
Thief River Falls - Owen Weckwerth, 77, died on Monday, November 3, 1997 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 7 at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church with Reverend George Davis officiating. Lenore Johnsen was the organist, and Doug and Diane Torblaa sang a vocal duet. Casketbearers were Jim Weckwerth, Tom Peterson, Bill Peterson, Roland Klamar, Dave Klamar and Don Fulton. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Owen Albert Weckwerth was born on April 26, 1920 in Smiley township of Pennington County to Owen and Loretta (Heys) Weckwerth. He graduated from Red Lake County Elementary School in 1933 and Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston in 1940. He entered the Army Air Force in January of 1946 and served until December of 1947. Owen received the World War II Victory Medal. Following his discharge he moved to North Dakota where he worked on grain elevator construction for several years.
On November 24, 1950 he was united in marriage to Ida Mae Brekke in North Dakota. The couple later moved to Plummer where Owen worked in a Chevrolet garage and on a local farm. He also managed a restaurant. From 1959 to retirement in 1983 Owen worked in construction as a general contractor. In 1959 he purchased his family's farm near Hazel where he built a home and resided until 1983. In l983 he moved to Thief River Falls where he has since resided. On February 6, 1988 he was united in marriage to Goldie Erickson at Thief River Falls.
Owen enjoyed woodworking, deer hunting, dancing and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed crocheting for which he won many ribbons at the local county fair. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Brethren Church, the Eagle's Aerie and the American Legion Post.
Owen is survived by his wife, Goldie; one son, Galen (Julie) Weckwerth of Glenwood; two step- daughters, Sandra (Harold) Beito of Roseau and Shelly (Steve) Stone of Thief River Falls; three stepsons, Rodney Erickson of Greenbush, Floyd (Arlene) Erickson of Thief River Falls and Dean (Irene) Erickson of Thief River Falls; 18 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Donnie Arne of Manassas, VA; and three brothers, Harold Weckwerth of Paso Robles, CA, Walter Weckwerth of Las Vegas, NV and Alan Weckwerth of Kansas City, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Gary Erickson; one stepgrandson, Jason Erickson; one niece, Lori Townley; three brothers, Clarence, William and Jim; and two sisters, Alta Peterson and Laura Weckwerth.
