Robert Wangenstein, 59

Thief River Falls - Robert "Butch" Wangenstein, 59, died Monday, August 7, 2000 at his home in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services were held at 2 Wangenstein,Robert p.m. on Friday, August 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Ruth Stenson was the organist, and the soloist was LeRoy Aasland. Dr. Charles Samuelson was the reader. Casketbearers were Milan Borsheim, Neil Carlson, Robert Magner, Craig Olson, Richard Bjerken, Don Narverud, Bobby Pearson and Dr. Charles Samuelson. Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bart Robert Wangenstein was born on February 6, 1941 to Bart A. and Dorothy (Holm) Wangenstein in Roseau. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. He attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1959. Following high school, he attended a jewelry repair school in Minneapolis. Robert later returned to Thief River Falls, joining his family in their jewelry business. The Wangenstein store was in operation for 74 years, closing in 1977.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a constant caregiver to his mom.

Robert enjoyed ice skating, bike riding and golf.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy of Thief River Falls; two sisters, Marjorie (Ivan) Radi of Grand Forks, N.D. and Barbara (Jerry) Oppermann of Minneapolis; and four cousins.

Butch was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law, Doug Tegtmeier. A00003B2000AG16
