
Thief River Falls - Edith Walker, 94, died Thursday, October 21, 1999 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 23 at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee with Rev. William Aufdencamp officiating. Mary Myhrer was the organist. Casketbearers were George Gunderson, Don Smith, Ben Wacker, John Wacker Jr., Anthony Wold, Rick Wold and Marlin Ziegler. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Edith Schie was born on September 26, 1905 in rural Newfolden, the daughter of John "Martin" Schie and Lily Folden. When she was six years old, Edith's family moved to Halma where she attended school through the third grade. From Halma, they moved to Mavie where she graduated from the eighth grade of the community's rural school. Edith rode the train to Goodridge where she attended high school, graduating in 1924. She then moved to Thief River Falls where she attended Normal Teachers Training for a year.
Edith taught in rural country school in Pennington, Becker and Marshall counties for 18 years. She took refresher courses at Dickenson State Teacher's College in 1938 and at Bemidji State Teacher's College from 1938 to 1942.
In September of 1943, Edith was united in marriage to Ernest Walker at Seattle, WA. During the couple's stay in Seattle, Edith was employed at Bon Marche, Winslow Shipyards, Winslow Nursery, Sears, Will Call and Southtown Preschool. The couple resided in Enumclaw, WA for several years before retiring to a lake home near Frazee. Following Ernie's death in 1994, Edith moved to Thief River Falls where she resided at Skylite Apartments. On November 1, 1998, she entered the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center.
Edith is survived by 19 nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and grand nephews. Local survivors include niece Marion Wold and grand nephew Richard (Trudy) Wold, all of Thief River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, six sisters and many nieces and nephews. A00003B1999OT27
