Sylvia Von Wald, 76

Roseburg, OR - Sylvia Von Wald, died Monday, August 31, 1998.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 5, 1998 at 4 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Ray Venghaus officiating. Interment was held in Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, OR. Wilson's Chapel of the Roses was in charge of the arrangements.

Sylvia Isabelle Nordhagen was born on December 5, 1921 to Olaf and Anna (Hemstad) Nordhagen in Norden township of Pennington county where she grew up.

On September 21, 1940 she was united in marriage to Arthur P. Von Wald. They moved from Thief River Falls to California in 1952. In 1972 they moved to Roseburg, OR. Sylvia worked as sales audit office assistant for W.T. Grants in California and for J.C. Penney in Roseburg before her retirement in March of 1990. Arthur died on June 15, 1991.

Sylvia was a member of the Seniors' "Let's Dance Club" where she served as treasurer, Faith Lutheran Church, the VFW Women's Auxiliary and Women of the Moose.

She enjoyed traveling, dancing and was an avid baseball and basketball fan. Her hobbies included gardening, picking berries and crocheting. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Sylvia is survived by two sons, Ronald (Judy) Von Wald of Oregon City, OR and Gary (Dodie) Von Wald of Albany, OR; two daughters, Diane (Mike) Rittmiller of Chino Hills, CA and Karen (Bill) Miller of Roseburg, OR; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Oren Nordhagen of Glide, OR, Roy (Diane) Nordhagen of Milwaukie, OR, George (Vivian) Nordhagen of Central Point, OR, and Lester (Dorothy) Nordhagen of Thief River Falls; two sisters, Mildred Fynskov of White City, OR and Lillian Rux of Erskine; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
