
Thief River Falls - Grant Vagle, 82, died on Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Services of celebration and salvation were held on Monday, February 2 at 7 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Merrill Kindall officiating. Lyndon and Laurel Johnson provided vocal music. Casketbearers were Bryan Inglis, Brad Inglis, Mandy Inglis, Stacey Stratton, Matt Vagle, Tyler Vagle, Kristen Lane and Jeffrey Lane. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Lake Bronson. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Grant Dufvenberg Vagle was born on June 11, 1915 in Hazel township of Kittson County, the son of Conrad and Mary (Dufvenberg) Vagle. He attended school in rural Lake Bronson.
On November 8, 1941 Grant was united in marriage to Edna C. Johnson at the Union Mission Church in Lake Bronson. On March 29, 1943 he entered the United States Navy during World War II. After his discharge on October 28, 1945, the couple farmed in Kittson County until 1955 when they purchased Grant's Hardware and Furniture Store in Lake Bronson. In 1961 they sold the business, and Grant was the postmaster in Lake Bronson until he retired 20 years later. In 1986 the couple moved to Thief River Falls. Edna died on December 16, 1989.
On August 15, 1992 Grant married Ruby M. Ramsey. He continued to live in Thief River Falls until the time of his death.
Grant was a member of the Community Covenant Church of Lake Bronson and a current member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls. He was a past member of the Lake Bronson Lions Club and served on the school board and city council in Lake Bronson. He also served on the boards of the Heritage Community Center, Community Church and the Blue Water Bible Camp. He was active in the Red Cross.
He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed walking and community development activities. He enjoyed his friends and family. Family centered activities were his priority.
Grant is survived by his wife, Ruby of Thief River Falls; one son, Marshall (Jennifer) Vagle of Thief River Falls; one daughter, Judy (Garry) Inglis of Thief River Falls; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step daughter, Jean Lane of Thief River Falls; two step grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edna; four brothers, Manford, Levine, Marvin and Kenneth; and two sisters, Mildred and Sele Billings.
