
Pearl City, HI - Graveside services for Harry D. Vacura will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at the Barnett National Cemetery, rural Badger. Pastor Doug Vacura will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by Badger VFW Post 3832. The Gieseke Funeral Home of Greenbush is in charge of the arrangments.
Harry D. Vacura, 83, died Tuesday, December 30, 1997 at his home in Pearl City, HI.
Harry D. Vacura was born on June 13, 1914 at Greenbush, the son of Frank and Minnie (Mitchel) Vacura. He grew up in rural Greenbush. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Asiatic-Pacific and was engaged in campaigns on New Guinea and Luzon in the Philippines.
After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Greenbush where he farmed. He later worked as a night watchman at Motor Coach Industries at Pembina, ND. He also worked as a custodian at the nursing home in Warroad and at schools in Roseau and Strandquist. Following his retirement in 1985, Harry moved to Hawaii. He then moved to Santa Cruz, CA where he lived for a short time before returning to Hawaii where he has since resided.
Harry is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Foley of Rensselaer, NY, Margaret Anderson of Greenbush and Mildred (Alison) Frislie of Badger and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lillian Goodale and Beatrice Keir.
