Harvey Underdahl, 66

Newfolden - Harvey Underdahl, 66, died on Saturday, April 26, 1997, at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Westaker Free Lutheran Church in Newfolden with Pastors LeRoy Flickinger and Raynard Huglen officiating.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Harvey James Underdahl was born on March 30, 1931 to the late Sigward and May (Kneeskern) Underdahl in Como township, Marshall county. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended rural public school in Marshall county. Harvey moved to Montana as a young man and worked on a ranch. He then moved to Iowa where he worked for Nash Finch. On April 14, 1954, he was united in marriage to Muriel Nelson in Thief River Falls. The couple lived for two years in Waterloo, IA, before moving to Viking. They then moved to East Grand Forks, and Harvey worked for Coca Cola Bottling Co. The couple then moved to Newfolden township, Marshall county, in 1961 where they made their home. The couple farmed and Harvey worked for Lakehead Pipeline and at the American Crystal Sugar beet plant in Drayton, ND. The couple owned and operated a restaurant in 1965-1966 in Newfolden. In 1977, Harvey and Muriel purchased the Hardware Hank store in Newfolden. They continued to live on their farm in New Folden township until his death.

Harvey is a member of the Westaker Free Lutheran Church of Newfolden and had worked in many of the activities of the church.

Harvey enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially spending time with his family and friends. He was very active in community events and sports. He was a member of the Newfolden Lion's Club and had served on various Newfolden city committees. His interest in tracing his Nowegian heritage led them on a trip in 1982 to Norway with Harvey's brother Clifford and his wife Lois.

Harvey is survived by his wife Muriel of Newfolden; his five children, Mike and his wife Lola of Newfolden, Debra Norby and her husband Jerald of Goodridge, Barry and his wife Jami of Elk River, Greg and his wife Beverly of Newfolden, and CharRae Chwialkowski and her husband Jay of Fridley; 12 grand children; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Glenn (Olga) of Bismarck, ND, Laverne of Thief River Falls, Elton (Yvonne) of Newfolden, and Curt (Beverly) of Florida; his mother-in-law Helga Nelson of Thief River Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; brother-in-law, Arvid Anderson of Harris, and sister-in-law, Lois Underdahl of West Union, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Clifford, and one sister Shirley Anderson.
