William Ulrich, 66

Thief River Falls - William Ulrich, 66, died Thursday, November 25, 1999 at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 28 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Joyce Halbasch was the organist. Casketbearers were Louie Ulrich, David Ulrich, Kenneth Ulrich, Arlan Johnson, Barry Fellman and Rodney Ulrich. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls with military honors accorded by the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

William Robert Ulrich was born on October 6, 1933 in Thief River Falls, the son of Ernest and Ida (Fellman) Ulrich. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls and attended Pershing High School in Plummer. He worked at Northern Motors in Thief River Falls for many years.

Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the European Theater. Following his honorable discharge in 1956 he returned to work at Northern Motors in Thief River Falls.

On November 20, 1959 he was united in marriage to Rose Mary Mettler, and the couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Bill began his career in the insurance business in 1965, working for Harold Rasmussen. Eventually he purchased the agency, renaming it Bill Ulrich Agency and owning and operating it until the time of his death. For the past few years he has also driven the bookmobile for Northwest Regional Library.

Bill was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a past member of the Stephen Lions Club, a past president of Northern Underwriters and was a member of the Pennington County Fair Board for many years. He was also an active member of the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion and actively raised money for Boy Scout Troop 199.

Bill is survived by his wife, Rose; two sons, Dave, of Thief River Falls and Jeff (Connie) of Des Moines, IA; one daughter, Lisa of Fargo, ND; two brothers, Ed (Joyce) of McIntosh and Jack (Pat) of Litchfield; one sister, Marion (Joe) Shimpa of Erskine; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Lee William in 1965; and one brother, Ronald in 1994. A00003B1999DC01
