
Goodridge - Harold Uglem, 84, died Monday, September 13, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 17 at Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Grace Hammer was the organist, and Vernon Iverson and Orlin Hanson were the vocalists.
Casketbearers were Dwaine Lappegaard, Donald Vraa, Leonard Olson, Mike Hemmestvedt, Selmer Holen and Donald Jensen. Honorary casketbearers were Otto Sigerud, Bernard Wells, Walter Quam, Virgil Defreese, Carl Lindblom, Albert Grabowska and Arthur Arntz. Burial was in Ekelund Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Harold Marvin Palmer Uglem was born on February 6, 1915 in Reiner township of Pennington county, the son of Oleander and Gena Marie (Homme) Uglem. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Rosendahl Church and attended Lundwood School in Reiner township. Following school, he farmed with his father.
On January 22, 1938, Harold was united in marriage to Blanche Hanson at Thief River Falls, and they farmed and had dairy cattle in Reiner township. In 1944, the couple purchased a farm in Kratka county where they continued to farm and raise dairy cattle. Harold also worked at other jobs, including road construction and pipeline work. For a time, he worked in Duluth.
Harold enjoyed dancing, playing cards with friends and hunting. When electricity first came to his neighborhood, he not only wired his own home but helped some of the neighbors with their wiring. He also enjoyed working with diesel tractors.
He moved to Valley Home in Thief River Falls in April of 1998 and to the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center on June 3, 1999.
Harold is survived by one daughter, Mardell Madill of Ukiah, CA; two sons, Harvey of Mahtomedi and Bernard "Butch" of Goodridge; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Arlyne (Dayton) Silk and Ruby Anderson, both of Thief River Falls, and June (Alwyn) Nelson of San Francisco, CA; and two sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Vicki and Darrin Uglem; one brother, Orrin; and four brothers-in-law.
