
Thief River Falls - Tilda Uggerud, 96, died Monday, March 17, 1997 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls. Arrangements are with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21 at Our Saviour's Free Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls at 2 p.m. with Rev. Randy Moe officiating. Burial will be in Landstad Cemetery in Auburn, ND. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 at Green Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and also for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Casketbearers will be Keith Erickson, Ray Feltman, Jeff Lannoye, Al Prigge, Edward Uggerud and Rodney Uggerud. Honorary casketbearers will be all of Tilda's friends and relatives.
Tilda "Tillie" Christine Swanson was born on November 29, 1900 in Midland Township, Pembina County, North Dakota, the daughter of the late Gust and Gustava (Mattson) Swanson. She was baptized on December 16, 1900 in the Auburn Lutheran Church and later confirmed in the same parish on November 28, 1915. She attended a rural school in Pembina County, North Dakota and Tillie grew to adulthood there. She worked as a cook on the cook cars for Mattson Threshing Crew. On January 23, 1930 Tillie was united in marriage to John Uggerud in Grafton, ND. The couple farmed near Grafton, ND until 1950 when they moved to Rocksbury Township, Pennington County and farmed. The couple later moved to Rosewood and farmed. On April 1, 1959 John retired and they moved into Thief River Falls. Tillie has worked a number of years as a cook, housekeeper and an aid at Valley Home in Thief River Falls. She moved into Valley Home in 1986 and to Oakland Park Nursing Home in 1992.
She had been a member of the St. Hilaire Lutheran Parish and joined Our Saviour's Free Lutheran Church and was active in its Ladies Aid following their move to Thief River Falls. She was also a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She is survived by daughters Virginia (Roy) Hakkanen of Virginia, and Martha (Jarvis) Torgerson of Thief River Falls; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters Gertie Lundeen of Grafton, ND, and Lavern Wagner of Argyle; brother-in-law Fred Lundeen of Oklee; and sister-in-law Sally Swanson of Grafton, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband John; son Orlando; daughter-in-law Doris Uggerud; grandson Dean Torgerson; one great-grandson; parents; sisters Birdie Sondeland and Evelyn Lundeen; and brothers Oscar Swanson, Edward Swanson, and Gerhard Swanson.
