Nellie Tveit, 85

Thief River Falls - Nellie Tveit, 85, died Saturday, October 18, 1997 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held today, Wed-nesday, Octo-ber 22 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Grace Hammer will provide special music. Casketbearers will be Patrick Sabol, Joe Tveit, Randy Burrell, Edward Sabol, Larry Sabol, Bill Sabol, Charles Sabol and Nick Tveit. Honorary Casketbearers will be Shirley Lundgren, Susan Drury, Brenda Anderson, Julie Ellis, Cindy Melgard, Rose Peterson, Sherri Rassier, Gail Garney, Tracy Lobbs and Diane Sabol. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday from noon to 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home with 7 p.m. prayer service and from 8 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jeanette Nellie Bye was born on January 9, 1912 at Bratrud Clinic in Warren to John and Marie (Tangen) Bye. At that time she was the smallest baby born at the Bratrud Clinic, and for that honor, the clinic presented her with a silver cup.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended school and grew to adulthood in Star township of Pennington County.

On June 30, 1932 she was united in marriage to Gunder Tveit in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Goodridge, and she resided there until l996. Gunder died in 1960. Nellie enjoyed working in the garden and hauling wood which she used to heat her home.

Nellie is survived by three children, Geraldine (George) Duquette of Thief River Falls, Janet (Elmer) Sabol of Warren and Galen (Sharon) Tveit of Palisade; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Oie of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gunder; her parents; one daughter, Margaret Burrell; one son, Mark; six sisters, Minnie Bye, Betsy Svare, Emma Bucholz, Clara Coan, Minnie Tollefson and Olga Kolstrand; two brothers, Henry and Oscar Bye; and several nieces and nephews.
