
Middle River - Tyyne Tuura, 85, died Saturday, June 26, 1999 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, June 30) at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Pastor John Jorgensen officiating. Lois Peterson will be the organist, and special music will be provided by the ladies' trio, Lois Peterson, Lois Anderson and Barb Geer. Helga's nephews will be the casketbearers. Interment will be in the Finnish Cemetery in Middle River.
Visitation was held after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Collins Funeral Chapel in Middle River. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Tyyne Helga Aliina Tuura was born on August 21, 1913 in Spruce Valley township of Marshall county near Middle River, the daughter of John and Hilma (Wahaoja) Tuura. She was baptized and confirmed at the Finnish Lutheran Church at Middle River and graduated from Middle River High School in 1931.
"Tootsie" was employed as a domestic for several years and then attended Aaker's Business College in Grand Forks, ND. She then moved to Minneapolis where she worked until 1954. She then came home to the farm near Middle River to care for her parents. She later worked at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls, retiring in 1980. For the past five years, she had resided at Oakland Park Nursing Home.
Helga enjoyed gardening and especially raising sheep and chickens.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Middle River.
Helga is survived by three sisters, Vienna Grondahl of St. Peter, Helen (Dallas) Robertson of Norfolk, NE and Viola (Francis) Johnson of Newfolden; one brother, Arne (Ione) of Middle River; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Esther, Lempi, Laina, Elli and Josephine; and one brother, Toivo. A00003B1999JN30
