
Thief River Falls - Agnes Tunheim, 101, died Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 18 at Abundant Life Free Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Wesley Langaas officiating. Bev Kays was the organist, and the soloist was Grace Hammer. Casketbearers were Donn Tunheim, Jay Tunheim, Gary Tunheim and Brian Wells. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Agnes Bakke was born on December 15, 1898 in New Folden township of Marshall county, the daughter of Andrew J. and Betsy (Jorstad) Bakke. She grew up and attended country school in the Newfolden area.
On November 24, 1917 she was united in marriage to Edward Tunheim. The couple made their home south of Newfolden. Edward died on April 13, 1940, and Agnes moved to Thief River Falls in 1942.
Agnes was employed for many years in the kitchen at St. Luke's Hospital in Thief River Falls. She also worked at the Gunflint Trail Lodge in northeast Minnesota and worked at several other restaurants in Thief River Falls. After suffering a stroke, she moved to Oakland Park Nursing Home in 1985.
Agnes was a member of Abundant Life Free Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crocheting, making lefse and doughnuts, collecting rocks and flower gardening.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Freeman Lanska of Thief River Falls; a daughter-in-law, Purnell Tunheim of Thief River Falls; a sister-in-law, Mildred Bakke of Thief River Falls; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Evelyn Lanska and Geneva Romans; two sons, Eugene and Glen; her parents; four brothers, Ingvald, Alfred, Andy and Bertil; a half brother, Peder; and two sisters, Mary Larson and Gunda Bakke. A00003B1999DC22
