Valerian Truscinski, 69

Greenbush - Valerian "Val" "Larry" Truscinski, 69, died Saturday, November 7, 1998 at the Roseau Area Hospital in Roseau.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 10 at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Father Don Braukmann officiating. Special music was provided by Jeanne Novacek, Sandy Truscinski and Darcy Hasson. Casketbearers were his six sons, Mark, Tim, Robert, Rodney, Alan and LeRoy Truscinski. Honorary casketbearers were his grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Burial was in Blessed Sacrament Cemetery. The Gieseke Funeral Chapel of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.

Valerian Truscinski was born on December 11, 1928 at Florian, the son of Peter Frank and Helen (Kasprowicz) Truscinski. He was baptized and confirmed in the Roman Catholic faith at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian. Val spent his early years in Florian and his school years in South St. Paul. In December of 1944 he moved with his parents to Greenbush when they purchased the Hartz Store. He helped his parents in the store and worked part time on the Alex Dembizak farm.

Val married Leona Zabrocki on July 29, 1947 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush. Val continued working at the Hartz store and farmed with Leona's parents, Joseph and Stella Zabrocki, for three years. In 1951 he helped with the construction of the Greenbush school. In May of 1964 Val began his career with the Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1990. He then worked part time for Gonshorowski and later Sather-Whitchurch Sanitation in Greenbush.

Val was a sports enthusiast, playing baseball, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed attending all of the sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He was active at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he ushered and was a member of St. Joseph's Mens Club. He was also a member of the Greenbush Fire Department in the 1950s and 60s.

Val is survived by his wife, Leona; six sons, Mark (Nancy) Truscinski of Calabasas, CA, Tim Truscinski of Moorhead and Robert (Patty) Truscinski, Rodney (Angie) Truscinski, Alan (Valerie) Truscinski and LeRoy (Amanda) Truscinski, all of Greenbush; two daughters, Bernadette (Chris) Skalecki and Barbara (Jim) Befus, both of Racine, WI; 19 grandchildren; his mother, Helen Truscinski of Greenbush; and one half sister, Patty (Tom) Haggerty of St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by his father; an infant daughter, Jennifer; one son, Gregory; and an infant grandson, Phillip.
