Thief River Falls - Harvey Troska, 69, died Thursday, March 11, 1999 at his home in Excel township of Marshall county.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Dennis Weiland officiating. Audrey Rogalla and Carol Amundson were the organists, and cantors were Kathy Kainz and Judy Dupree. Casketbearers were Marlin Kotrba, Darwin Eidelbes, Norman Adams, Vernon Rogalla, Brian Peterson and Kenneth Sanders. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Harvey Theodore Troska was born on October 23, 1929 near Stephen, the son of Sullivan and Lillie (Kurowski) Troska. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Stephen Catholic Church and attended rural elementary schools near Stephen and Warren. Harvey graduated from Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston in 1948. On December 12, 1952 he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was discharged from active duty on November 30, 1954.
On June 12, 1956 Harvey was united in marriage to Betty Antoinette Sczcepanski at Assumption Catholic Church in Florian. The couple farmed in Kratka township for two years and then moved to a farm in Cloverleaf township of Pennington county. The y raised grain, cattle, hogs and had a dairy operation until 1968. In 1998 they sold their farm in Cloverleaf township and moved to Excel township of Marshall county.
Harvey was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church of Goodridge, serving as church treasurer for a number of years. He served as clerk of Cloverleaf township for 36 years and was also a member of Eagles Aerie of Thief River Falls and the VFW Post of Thief River Falls.
He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and friends and his tractor collection.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Betty; eight children, Llewelyn Troska of Chicago, IL, Georgine Troska of San Antonio, TX, Daniel Troska of Floresville, TX Vicki (Gerald) Smisck of Lonsdale, Patrick Troska of Minneapolis, Diana (James) Schulz of Plymouth, Richard (Julie) Troska of Centerville, and James Troska of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren; two sisters, Marguerite (Edward) Jadeke of Warren and Ardyce (David) Riggs of Fayetteville, AR; three brothers, Henry (Phyllis) Troska of Manitowoc, WI, Roger Troska of Farmington, and Paul (Nancy) Troska of Reno, NV; one brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Adele Kostrzewski. A00003B1999MR17
