
Thief River Falls - Eleanor Tornes, 80, died Friday, November 13, 1998 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist, and LeRoy Aasland was the soloist. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Eleanor Amanda Tornes was born on January 15, 1918 in Spruce Grove township of Beltrami county, the daughter of Peter and Agnes (Ronne) Tornes. She attended rural school in Beltrami county and high school in Thief River Falls, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1936.
She then attended teacher's training for a year in Thief River Falls and received her bachelors degree from Bemidji State College. She also did graduate work at St. Cloud University. Eleanor taught at rural schools in Beltrami county, Roseau Public School from 1948 to 1956 and Little Falls Community School from 1956 until 1980 when she returned to Thief River Falls.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Golden Years group, Sons of Norway and Northland Retired Teachers Association.
Eleanor is survived by one brother, Norman Tornes of Coal Valley, IL; three nephews; five nieces; two sisters-in-law; her neighbor and friend, Lawrence Brooten of Thief River Falls; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothes, Harold Tornes and Palmer Tornes; and one sister-in-law.
