
Red Lake Falls - Richard Thorfinnson, 42, died of natural causes on Sunday, June 14, 1998 at his home in Red Lake Falls.
Memorial services will be held today (Wednesday, June 17) at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Curtis Brooks officiating.
A prayer service was held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls.
Richard "Dick" Vaughn Thorfinnson was born on July 5, 1955 at Jamestown, ND, the son of Vaughn and Mildred (Mohberg) Thorfinnson. The family lived in Lisbon, ND from 1955 until 1963. They lived in Grand Forks, ND in 1963 and 1964 before moving to Red Lake Falls. Dick graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls in 1973 and attended Northland College in 1974.
Dick entered the US Navy in 1975 and was honorably discharged in 1977. He returned to Red Lake Falls and attended the North Dakota State University in Fargo until 1987. During that time, he was employed by Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls. He was production manager at the Occupational Development Center and for the past four years has worked at St. Croix Wood in Grand Forks. He was once married to Tonia Larson.
Dick was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, the Red Lake Falls Lions Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, reading and working.
Dick is survived by his parents, Vaughn and Mildred Thorfinnson of Red Lake Falls; one sister Kristi (Ron) Wentzel of Fisher; two brothers, Dennis (Kristen) of Gillette, WY and David (Karen) of East Grand Forks; his grandmother, Olive Thorfinnson of Lisbon, ND; three nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; paternal grandfather; and one niece.
