Olga Thompson, 89

Greenbush - Olga Thompson, 89, formerly of Newfolden, died Thursday, May 7, 1998 at the Greenbush Nursing Home in Greenbush.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11 at Oiland Lutheran Church, rural Greenbush, with Reverend Alan Arneson and Reverend LeRoy Flickinger officiating. Donna Graff was the organist, and special music was provided by Carol Gregerson and Thoralf Melby. Casketbearers were Kevin Thompson, Chad Thompson, Lonnie Thompson, Mark Thompson, Roger Thompson, Marc Knutson, Greg Carlson, Tom Duray and Jim Dvergsten. Burial was in Oiland Lutheran Cemetery. The Gieseke Funeral Home of Greenbush was in charge of the arrangements.

Olga Clarice Kammen was born on October 15, 1908 in Skagen township near Badger, the daughter of Syvert and Kristi (Olson) Kammen. She graduated from high school in Badger and attended Bemidji Teachers College. Because of her father's illness, she returned to Badger where she worked at the post office.

On October 10, 1929 she married Cambell Thompson. The couple farmed north of Greenbush in the Haug area. Olga was an active member of Oiland Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She served as the church organist for 17 years.

After retiring from farming, Olga and Cambell moved to Newfolden where they operated a hardware store for many years. Cambell died on January 23, 1971, and Olga continued to work for the hardware store's new owner. She also worked at the Newfolden School.

Olga enjoyed caring for her family and others, flowers and gardening.

She is survived by three sons, Curtis (Elaine) Thompson of Newfolden, Donald (Eleanore) Thompson of Greenbush and David (Beverly) Thompson of Thief River Falls; two daughters, Shirley (Bill) Wagner of Greenbush and Junice Thompson of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Emma Kammen of Greenbush.

Olga was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one infant son, Charles; one grandson, Lowell Thompson; one great-granddaughter, Lynell Thompson; four brothers, Martin Kammen, Olaf Kammen, Sigrid Kammen and Albert Kammen; and two sisters, Ann Schmidt and Magna Drehmel.
