Leonard Thompson, 56

Warroad - Leonard Thompson, 56, died Thursday, December 31, 1998 at the Roseau Area Hospital in Roseau.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 3 at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. Burial was in America Cemetery in Warroad. The Helgeson Funeral Chapel of Warroad was in charge of the arrangements.

Leonard Leroy Thompson was born on June 19, 1942 in Warroad, the son of Harley and Evelyn (Fish) Thompson. After graduating from Warroad High School in 1960, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a mechanic at Hoffmans Boating Center.

Leonard returned to Warroad where he worked for two years at Marvin Windows. For the rest of his career he operated a grain and beef farm south of Warroad in Clear River township. He also logged for many years and drove school bus for the Warroad School District for the past 14 years.

He was a fire warden for Clear River township, a charter member of the Warroad Eagles, a past commander of the Warroad American Legion and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Sherry of Warroad; two sons, Leroy (Dawn) Elliot of Arena, WI, and Scott (friend Tracy) of Warroad; four daughters, Tammi (Ron) Amedt-Sokup of Rice Lake, WI, Margo (friend Mike Davis) Thompson of Minneapolis, and Kristi and Jennifer Thompson, both of Warroad; his parents; three brothers, Warren (Carol) Thompson, Glen (Jeri) Thompson and Donald (Ardis) Thompson, all of Warroad; and four sisters, Shirley (Ron) Nelson of Thief River Falls, Bonnie (Mark) Beedy of Moorhead, Wanda (Paul) Rutherford of Euclid, and Susan (John) Thunder of Buffalo Point, Manitoba, Canada.
