
Thief River Falls - Thelma Terrian, 76, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997 at the Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls. Arrangements were with Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 28 at Zion Lutheran church of Thief River Falls with Rev. Dennis Raymond officiating. Burial was in Norden Lutheran Cemetery of Pennington County.
Casketbearers were Andrew Skaar, Leonard Skaar, David Powell, Ted Powell, Richard Kinnunen, Bruce Kinnunen, Steve Terrian, Richard Esser, Tanya Powell and Tracy Terrian.
Thelma Mae "Mitzi" Skaar was born on May 7, 1920 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of the late Ole and Olga (Nelson) Skaar. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith in the Trinity Lutheran Church. Thelma's elementary schooling was in the City View School and she graduated from the Lincoln High School in 1938. Following her schooling she worked at the J.C. Penny Store in Thief River Falls. In 1940 she was united in marriage to Arthur Terrian in Thief River Falls. They made their home in the Thief River Falls area and in 1960 purchased the Riverside Grocery Store which they operated until they retired. Arthur died August 14, 1980.
Thelma was an active member of Zion Lutheran Congregation in Thief River Falls. She had a love of gardening, painting and sketching. She also raised hundreds of African Violets.
She is survived by children Dr. James (Marlys) Terrian of Newberry, MI, Arlene (Rueben) Powell of Maple Valley, WA and Audrey (Richard) Esser of Walnut Creek, CA; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Andrew Skaar and Leonard Skaar, both of Thief River Falls, and Erven (Bette) Skaar of Cambridge; sisters Oline (Rod) Markine of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Elsie (Robert) Fairbank of Tucson, AZ, Faythe (Harold) Kinnunen of Menahga and Martha Parsons of Yelm, WA; many nieces and nephews; and special friend Helen Christensen of Thief River Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
