
Greenbush - Claire L. Swanstrom, 81, died Monday, November 3, 1997 at the Roseau Area Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 8 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush with Pastors Ernie Christensen and Stephen Hokonson officiating. Joan Haugen was the organist. Casketbearers were Ivan Fletcher, Vernon Johnson, Manvil Dvergsten, Linn Rigstad, Greg Wollin and Steve Wollin. Military honors were provided by Moen-Zimek American Legion Post 88 of Greenbush. Burial was at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. The Geieske Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Claire L. Swanstrom was born on April 25, 1916 in Greenbush, the son of Carl and Katrina (Brodin) Swanstrom. On July 4, 1942 he was united in marriage to Claryce Fletcher in Denver, CO. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in Africa and Southern Italy for three years. After discharge he returned to Greenbush. He worked as the manager of Central Lumber Co. He later worked at the Greenbush State Bank and Swanstrom Insurance Agency. Claire was a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 20 years retiring in 1978.
Claire is survived by his wife, Claryce; one daughter, Coreen Nienkerk of Plana, TX; two sons, Clive of Boerne, TX and Chris (Genie) of Mesa, AZ; seven grandchildren; one sister, Abby Chatham of LaJolla, CA; and one brother, Orville of LaMesa, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
