Hilding Swanson, 69

Kennedy - Hilding Swanson, 69, died Saturday, September 18, 1999 at his home near Kennedy.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22 at Evangelical Mission Covenant Church in Kennedy with Rev. Steve Thompson officiating. Providing special music were Patti Swanson, organist, Joe Meidt, soloist; Marlys Meidt, accompanist; and Dawn Kovacovich, flutist. Casketbearers were Gary Krogstad, Merle Gunnarson, John Finney, Bill Nelson, Roman Gudmundson and Blake Tangquist. Interment was in Jupiter Mission Cemetery in Kennedy. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad was in charge of the arrangements.

Hilding Allan Swanson was born on April 9, 1930 at Drayton, ND, the son of Allan and Hilda (Lundburg) Swanson. He grew up and attended school in Tegner township of Kittson county near Kennedy, graduating from Kennedy High School in 1948.

On September 16, 1950, he was united in marriage to Florence Gunnarson at Lake Bronson. The couple has made their home on the Swanson family farm in Tegner township. In addition to farming, Hilding engaged in trucking throughout his adult life, purchasing his first semi-truck in 1979. Together the couple owned and operating Swanson Trucking of Kennedy.

Hilding was a life-long member of Evangelical Mission Covenant Church of Kennedy.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; one son, Rodney of Kennedy; one daughter, Bonnie Lundeen of Karlstad; four grandchildren; two sisters, Muriel Johnson of Hallock and Linda (Dwight) Tangquist of Thief River Falls; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Hilding was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Maida; and his daughter-in-law, Shelly.
