Wendell Swan, 67

St. Peter - Wendell Swan, 67, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998 at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt with Reverend Nancy Werner officiating. Yvonne Larson was the organist, and Don Lunke provided vocal music. Casketbearers were Brent Reichel, Mark Johnson, Loren Grondahl, Jerry McMillan, Tim McMillan and Matt McMillan. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Wendall Swan was born on August 26, 1930 in Newfolden, the son of Arthur and Annabel (Windahl) Swan. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended rural schools and high school and grew to manhood in Newfolden.

On November 4, 1953 he was united in marriage to Delphine Grondahl at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. Wendell served in the United States Air Force in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1954. Following his discharge, he was the manager of the Greenbush Creamery for six years. The couple moved to St. Peter where Wendell was employed as an engineer at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center. He retired in 1980 due to health problems.

Wendell enjoyed fishing, hunting deer, elk and antelope and telling stories. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Delphine of St. Peter; two daughters, Nancy (Mark) Johnson of Cleveland and Nanette Swan of St. Peter; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce Knutson of Iron, Sonja (Gaylord) Peterson of Thief River Falls and Dorothy Pederson of Viking; three brothers, Vernon (Betty) Swan of Newfolden, Robert (Beverly) Swan of Aurora and James (Mary Ann) Swan of Holt; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Wendy Jo Swan in 1970; his parents and two sisters, Lois Maki and Jean Grindeland.
