River Falls - James Suronen, 57, died Monday, July 24, 2000 at
Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 28 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Dan Andrus officiating. Marilyn Bergman will be the pianist. Casketbearers will be Wally "Scott" Suronen, Roger Hanson, Ron Philipp, Gary Clow, Harley Crocker and Rocky Manning. Honorary casketbearers will be Keith Jankowski, Darrell Sevre, LaVerne Nabben and Julie Gustafson. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, July 27 at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
James R. Suronen was born on December 21, 1942 in Minneapolis, the son of Henry and Ida Suronen. He attended Lincoln High School, graduating in 1960. Following high school, James spent 3-1/2 years in the U.S. Navy.
On July 13, 1963, James was united in marriage to Yvonne Manning. The couple made their home in Newport, R.I. for a short time before moving to St. Hilaire and then back to Thief River Falls in 1974. James worked for United Parcel Service for 9-1/2 years. He then sold insurance for American Family Life Insurance from 1977 until May of 1998 when he retired due to ill health.
Jim was a member of New Beginnings Church and the American Legion.
He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife, Yvonne; three sons, Doug of Thief River Falls, Robby (special friend Trish Rowland) of Salt Lake City, Utah and Danny of Thief River Falls; two daughters, Jan of Chaska and Kristi (special friend Brent Voeller) of Eden Prairie; two grandchildren; one brother, Harvey of Minneapolis; five sisters, Trudy Kersten of Fridley, Alyce (Bill) Sundholm of New Brighton, Esther Acquaro of North Pole, Alaska, and Verna (Darrell) Sevre and Shirley (Roger) Hanson, both of Thief River Falls; and his mother-in-law, Thelma Manning of Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers, John, Ernie, Mel, Elmer, George, Albert and Walt. A00003B2000JL26
